Gutter Material
Gutters can be made out of aluminum, copper, or steel. The type of material used to create a gutter system varies depending on the application and type of gutter being installed.
For most residential installations, seamless aluminum is the most commonly used gutter material. Seamless aluminum gutters (also known as formed K-style gutters) are roll-formed from an aluminum coil that is either .027 inches or .032 inches thick. These gutters are coated in a Kynar paint on both the front and back to help prevent fading, and they are hung off the fascia board with hidden hangers. Aluminum gutter material is preferred due to its lightweight, durable nature, and resistance to rust.
All the accessories on our seamless aluminum gutters are also treated with Kynar paint, including endcaps, miters, downspouts, elbows, downspout straps, and splash guards, so the gutters all match in color. There are many different colors available, and our seamless aluminum gutters are formed into the shape and length needed for your home. This makes aluminum coil for gutters a popular choice among homeowners.
We can also create seamless gutters out of copper or steel. Copper is usually reserved for classic restorations. It’s handsome, never rusts, and never needs painting. Although copper gutters are expensive, they add value to your home and require less maintenance than aluminum or other materials. However, copper gutters will oxidize and turn green over time unless they’ve been treated. There are several sealants available for copper gutters, including coppertone gutters, to help maintain their golden color and shine.
Steel gutters are durable and can support ladders and fallen branches better than aluminum. But even thick galvanized steel eventually rusts and needs to be painted, inside and out. Stainless steel gutters, however, are strong and rust-free, and they maintain their high sheen for years. But, like copper, stainless steel is expensive. For those debating galvanized steel gutters vs aluminum, steel offers more strength, but aluminum provides better resistance to rust. Because they are larger in size and typically require a higher water-carrying capacity, commercial box gutters are generally made of steel. These gutters are also hung with hidden hangers for a smooth, installed look.
